Janet M. Willits

Janet M. Willits, 76, of Aledo, died on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, Iowa.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo. Visitation is 4 - 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the New Boston Cemetery, New Boston, Illinois. Memorials can be made to the Janet Willits memorial fund.

Janet was born October 5, 1933 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of John W. and Lillian Milan Murphy, Jr. She married Byron Blackman. She later married Tom B. Willits.

Mrs. Willits was a life member of the Mercer County VFW Auxiliary # 1571 for 44 years. Mamie’s relentless selfless heart remained open to anyone who crossed her path, always putting others first. She enjoyed animals, music, fishing and boating on the river, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Jana M. Meece, Aledo; beloved step-son, Jim Willits, Mapleton, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer M. Meece, Davenport, Iowa, David O. (Kelly) Meece, II, Muscatine, Iowa, Jeff, Jeremy and Keri Blackman, all of Watauga, Texas; great-grandchildren, David O. Meece, III and Kenzi J. Meece. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bryon Blackman and Tom Willits; sister, Jacqueline I. Hodgson; and sons, Mike and Tommy Blackman.
