Doris O. Balmer, 84, of Edgington, IL passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at her residence with her loving family by her side. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Aledo Cemetery.

Doris was born August 30, 1925 in Millersburg, IL, the daughter of Oral and Susan Hyett Wakeland. She married Everett “Tex” Balmer on April 19, 1946 in Iowa City, Iowa. He died on October 10, 2008.

Mrs. Balmer retired as a cook for the Edgington Grade School in 1987 after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge, IL.

Survivors (and spouses) include her children, Jim (Teresa) Balmer, Andalusia, Judy (Phil) Vaughn, East Moline, Janet (Jerry) Neece, Andalusia, John (Bonnie) Balmer, Andalusia, Jeanne (Tracey) Hayes, Taylor Ridge; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tex; a sister and a granddaughter.
