Richard "Dick" P. Scharer, 72, of Millersburg, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at his residence. Services will be 11 am Friday at Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo. Visitation will be 5 - 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Millersburg. Memorials may be made to the Dick Scharer Memorial Fund.

Mr. Scharer was born May 24, 1934 in East Moline, IL, the son of Fritz and Katarine Fluri Scharer. He married Betty Frerkes on September 25, 1979 in Moline, IL.

Dick was retired from International Harvestor. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and bowling. He loved to refinish furniture and antiques. He loved to play cards.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Betty; children, Richard Paul (Coco) Scharer, Jr., Tom Scharer, Debbie Scharer, Dennis (Cindy) Scharer, Seth John and Paul John; step-sons, Gary, Rick, Tim and Tom Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Scharer. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Max and Fritz Scharer; and sisters Gertrude Moisan and Margaret Tipp.
