Dorothy Belle Smith, 85, of Aledo died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007 at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday at the Norwood Cemetery in Norwood, IL There is no visitation. Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Smith was born January 31, 1922 in Abington Township, Seaton, IL, the daughter of Jewell and Irene Awbrey Welch. She married John H. Smith June 14, 1944 in Norwood. He passed away Feb. 6, 1957.

Dorothy was employed as a secretary at Seaton Grain and retired as a secretary from St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary's and Cottage Hospitals, Galesburg, embroidery, reading and cooking. She was a member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her daughter, C. June Lindorfer, Davenport, IA; sons, John H. Smith, Naples, Florida, James (Judy) Smith, Rockford, IL, Robert (Karel) Smith, Orion,IL ; brothers, Dwight (Imogene) Welch, Keithsburg,IL, Dean (Sandra) Welch, Lexington, KY; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; brother, Rex; and one grandchild.
